The University of Johannesburg in partnership with the Association of Commonwealth
Universities (ACU) and Universities South Africa (USAF) hosted a symposium titled “Developing
the Capacity of Early Career Researchers”. The symposium took place on the 18th and 19th
March at the APK Library. The “Keynote” was delivered by the Honorable Minister Naledi
Pandor, Minister of Higher Education and Training.

Once you have been academically admitted at the university in January 2020, and you received a letter of confirmation of placement in residence, you will be required to pay a residence deposit of R1220.00

UJ has climbed an astounding 60 places from a global rank of 457 in last year's 2018 edition to a global rank of 397 in this year's 2019 edition, breaking into the Top 400 in the world.
On 1 April 2019, the philosophy department honoured its top-performing students for the academic year 2018. The prizes included awards for the 5 top 1st years, the top 3 2nd and 3rd-year students, as well as the best Honour's and Master's performers in 2018. The Annemarie Basson Prize is awarded to the student who comes top of the class in all of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year. The 2018 Annemarie Basson prize went to Yoliswa Mlungwana. The top Honour's student was Abe Tobi, and the top MA student was Jessica van Jaarsveld. The department also runs the Lembede Essay prize for excellence in philosophical writing. The 3rd place and R 5000 prize went to Jessica van Jaarsveld, 2nd place (R 7500) to Abe Tobi, and the winner of the 1st prize of R15000 went to Akanimo Andrew Akpan.
Students who wish to apply at the University of Johannesburg may apply in two ways. They can apply online at www.uj.co.za and follow the link to study@UJ, or they may download the application form, complete it and submit it at the student's enrollment centre or email their application to the university. Applicants are required to pay an application fee of R200 if they are applying with a paper-based application form. Applicants applying online do not need to pay an application fee.
