Student Program The Student Program involves activities that contribute to a student’s well-being and assimilation into BIHE and University life. In addition to the Welcome Week activities, Orientation and Enrolment Day, the BIHE holds workshops during the first semester on topics such as Multiculturalism, Making New Friends, Conflict Resolution, Health and Wellness and more.

Services include a Career Development Centre offering a comprehensive package of information and training to assist students throughout their enrolment at BIHE. Qualified career advisors provide one-on-one counseling, drop-in sessions seminars, skills workshops, mock-interview practice, career fairs, online job postings, notice board job postings, information handouts, a career resource library, internships and paid work experience.
S.T.A.R. Leadership Program [ 18 Dec 2009 ]
S.T.A.R. (Students Taking Active Roles) is an extra-curricular program that has been designed to develop the leadership abilities of students to enhance their employability as they graduate. S.T.A.R. offers students a range of interactive workshops, one-on-one training, developmental activities and projects, seminars, competitions and internships. Completion of certain activities is compulsory; other activities are elective. Students earn prizes by achieving certain targets throughout the program as well as a Certificate of Accomplishment at completion, but the true reward will be the students’ enhanced employability upon graduation.

BIHE’s Student Counselor provides students a safe environment to discuss in complete confidence issues and concerns relating to personal development, relationship difficulties, family conflicts, coping with stress, grief, and bereavement as well as academic difficulties. The Student Counselor can help students study difficulties, academic concerns, budgeting, health, personal problems and family emergencies.
Student Academic Support Services (S.A.S.S.) [ 18 Dec 2009 ]
A range of student academic support services are offered through the Student Services Department for students who wish to further develop their academic skills or who are experiencing difficulties with their studies. Academic Skills Workshops provide an opportunity for students to learn the academic skills that will be needed throughout their studies as well as providing an opportunity for graduate students returning to study after break to refresh their skills. Some of the topics on offer include:

• Exam Preparation
• Critical Thinking
• Academic Research
• Listening & Note-taking Skills
• Memory Strategies
Peer Tutoring offers academic support for students through small group sessions or one-on-one tutoring led by trained peer tutors. This assistance allows students to develop a deeper understanding of course concepts with the support of tutors who clarify difficult course material, review homework assignments and provide motivation as role models.
BAKHTAR offers a generous scholarship scheme for academically outstanding candidates enrolling at the University. These scholarships are available for new (entry level) and continuing (re-enrolling students). Benefits range from 20% - 100% payment of tuition fees and do not cover textbooks, excursions, accommodation, living expenses or any other costs involved in undertaking study. Scholarships are available, (unless otherwise stated) at the commencement of each semester: Autumn (August), spring \ (January), and Summer (May). Applying for a BAKHTAR Scholarship [ 18 Dec 2009 ]
Applicants are eligible for the Outstanding Academic Excellence Scholarships valued at 20% and 30%, wil be assessed automatically by Admissions staff. All students must lodge an application form to the Registrar’s department prior to the deadline.
Scholarship Application Deadlines [ 18 Dec 2009 ]
The deadlines for receipt of Scholarship applications and complete supporting documentation will be announced by university at the beginning of each semester. Applications received after the due dates will not be considered.
Assessment of Applications [ 18 Dec 2009 ]
• Unless otherwise stated, “new” and “continuing” level scholarships will be awarded to the top academic performers for their category; • Sports and Merit Scholarships will be awarded in accordance with the specific eligibility and selection criteria relevant to this Scholarship.
Terms and Conditions [ 18 Dec 2009 ]
Some of the key terms and conditions include: Scholarships are available for the “normal” duration of the program, subject to satisfactory academic progress each year as per the Scholarships policy; • Scholarships are only available for students who have satisfied the Admissions criteria for the program for which they have applied; • New scholarship recipients must commence their studies in the semester for which they have applied. Scholarship winners will not be permitted to defer their scholarships beyond one semester from their original offer of admission; • Scholarship awarded to an eligible to student is not transferable to his brother/sister friends or any other family members • The decisions made by the University’s Scholarship Selection Committee are final and there are no provisions or processes for appeal.
