Measuring the earth is a modern science. Apart from classic measuring tools, geodesists and geoinformatics specialists use modern satellite technology for remote sensing and positioning. They develop automatic, computer-assisted procedures to collect, process, analyse and visualise spatial information.
Geodesy and geoinformatics comprises issues in regional and urban development, the establishment of geo information systems and at the same time data collection, data management and the visualisation of the data to make them accessible in many ways. Graduates are involved in the development of vehicle navigation systems; they measure the deformation of dams or the shifting of continental plates and rising sea levels. Geodesy and geoinformatics is a mixture of engineering and geo sciences shaped by mathematics and physics, with close links to law, environmental and social sciences.
